Cultural HistoryYucatan Peninsula, La Peninsula de Yucatan, is an area separating the Caribbean Sea from Gulf of Mexico. The Yucatan area consists part of Mexico, the northern part of Belize and El Peten state of Guatemala.
The area of Yucatan was the kingdom of ancient Maya civilization and still until today the Mayan languages are spoken on the are. The crater of Chicxulub is located in the Yucatan. 65 million years ago an asteroid hit the Earth and it is said that this caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.
